James M. Hill Memorial Principal to Receive Prestigious Award

Heidi Ryder is someone who leads by example with her creativity and innovative way of thinking. Being the lead administrator in a High School with over 500 students is sure to be a challenge, but Heidi has embraced the opportunity and has won over her students and staff. Everyone in the building means something to her and she treats everyone with equal respect. Therefore, it is no surprise that Heidi has been named one of Canada’s Outstanding Principals for 2018 by the Learning Partnership organization.

Non-fiction Read Aloud Winners Announced!

The first ASD-N non-fiction read aloud challenge, which ran from mid-October to mid-November, appears to have been a huge success.  37 entries were turned in and the response from teachers and leads is that students loved reading and discussing the non-fiction stories.  All winning classrooms won a pack of non-fiction books for their classrooms.

Nelson Rural Named Top 10 Finalist in CBC Music Challenge

Nelson Rural School has been named one of the top 10 finalists in the 2017 CBC Canadian Music Class Challenge. The Nelson Rural entry of the Joni Mitchell classic “Both Sides Now” was selected from over 140 entries across Canada in the Elementary School Vocal category. Led by music teacher Mary O’Neill-Delano, the submission includes all students from the Grade 4 and 5 classes in Nelson.

Dalhousie Regional High School Hosts Canada 150 Skating Day Event

Everyone (all ages) is welcome to attend at the Dalhousie Inch Arran Arena on December 10th from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Admission is free and we will be serving hot chocolate and cake. On November 20th 2017, all Kindergarten teachers participated in bringing joy and purposeful play to our classrooms. Kimberly Stewart and Dr. Sherry Rose shared igniting opportunities for reinforcing the tremendous value of children’s play. Children are designed to play! Play helps develop social skills, memory, emotional awareness, and creative problem - solving. Play isn’t a luxury! It’s a Necessity!

As adults and children, play has an essential role in fueling our happiness and intelligence throughout our lives and it is essential to our health as sleep and food. Let’s Play!

Ms. Krista Betts receives the Senate 150 Anniversary Medal

Ms. Krista Betts educator at EWG Middle School in Rexton was recently awarded the Senate 150 Anniversary Medal from Senator Rose May Poirier. The Senate 150th Anniversary Medal commemorates the first time senators came to Ottawa to sit in Parliament, on November 6, 1867.

K-1 STEM Bins Delivered and STEM Challenges Launched!

The rollout of STEM Bins has been completed in ASD-N and an exciting new competition has been launched.  K-1 classes from around the district are invited to participate in monthly STEM challenges in their classrooms and compete for prizes.  Teachers are asked to share pictures and videos of their students completing the challenge and their names will be entered into a draw for a prize. These challenges will be sent out via e-mail each month.
